A month after I passed the local board examination, I immediately applied for Health Carousel. There was something inside me, something deep about pursuing the best possible option for my nursing career. HCPI was there and they offered a really good plan for an aspiring nurse like me so I immediately went to Cebu for an interview. It was back in 2017 and the excitement was really overwhelming at first knowing that maybe I could fulfill my #AmericanDream in 2-3 years’ time. I never took it seriously at first since I’ve been busy struggling as a novice nurse in my previous hospital— wherein I had my first job. The moment that I had already managed my schedule, I did comply with all my pending requirements.I am not that compliant so I was quite late. Fast forward two years later, 2019, I received an email last June and without hesitation, I scheduled my exam on the very last day of the said schedule because it arrived earlier than I’ve expected. I am supposed to give myself three months to focus for self-review but working while studying is quite difficult so I had no choice but to resign a month before my examination. The last three weeks were very crucial on my part because that was the only time that I started reviewing. I am not the kind of person who is really studious so it was a challenge for me to make a study plan. I’m on the verge of giving up because of the limited time that I had but cliché as it may sound if you really want something, you will actually work hard for it. And that happened to me. I used Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN and Saunders Q & A Review for the NCLEX-RN. I never had the luxury of time so I preferred using one review material.I had to finish my study theory goals and practice questions every day (but I’m also giving myself a break) to kill the guilt of being unproductive. Rest. Study. Pray. Pray. Pray and pray again. I was cringing my lazy bones on the day of the examination. I also had mild anxiety which is quite helpful on my part. While answering the questions, I had to admit that test-taking strategies are nothing compared to attacking the questions while imagining that there’s a real client in front of you. I don’t want to fail myself and the persons who believe in me because, at the end of the day, I am doing this for my clients— that one day I may provide them with the best nursing care.
