Health Carousel Philippines Inc. (HCPI), in partnership with the DAISY Foundation, presented the DAISY Award given to a nursing student at the University of the Philippines, Manila on August 24, 2023. This is the university’s second DAISY Award. The DAISY Award is a prestigious international award for nurses. The Daisy Foundation was formed by the family of Patrick Barnes, who died of complications from an auto-immune disease. The family was touched by the care and compassion of the nurses, which encouraged the family to develop a recognition program called DAISY, an acronym for Disease Attacking the Immune System.
There are thousands of healthcare facilities and schools in 30+ countries using the DAISY Award to recognize nurses, nursing leaders and nursing students.
Based on the standards established by the DAISY Committee, the story of Rhadrian Raphael Resuello, an incoming senior nursing student, gets the award.
"I would like to thank the Daisy Foundation and Health Carousel. I was inspired by the story of the first recipient at our university last year. I hope my story will also inspire all the students here. Always take all the learning, be it in the ward or community, and I hope you bring it to serve the Filipino people as well as our fellow students,” Rhadrian said.
“We hope that Rhadrian’s story will inspire and motivate you to become an extraordinary nurse eventually. It is also our hope that this will inspire the whole nursing community at the UP Manila College of Nursing. Rhadrian is the second awardee in UP, and it is also our goal to give another award next year. In addition to the standard items that the awardee received, the Health Carousel Foundation will also give a full scholarship, book allowance, and review for NLE”, said the co-founder and chairman of Health Carousel Philippines, Ms. Consorcia Dela Cruz.
Ms. Alyssa Jenny Tupaz, assistant professor and college secretary, represented the dean of the college, who was on official travel. "I hope this will inspire the students from the younger batches to work on not only becoming a DAISY Awardee but also as exemplary students. Rhadrian, wear proudly your DAISY pin and serve the Filipino people after graduation”, said Tupaz.
The awarding ceremony was attended by the students and the Faculty members of the College of Nursing.
********The partnership of Health Carousel Philippines thru Health Carousel, LLC and DAISY foundation started in year 2020 to recognize extraordinary nurses and nursing students in the country. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Student is an ongoing project of Health Carousel Foundation to recognize nursing students. Our goal is to encourage more schools to participate in the coming years. By recognizing nursing students for the above and beyond compassion shown to patients and their families, we celebrate what it truly means to be a nurse.
